Interpreters and notables from Maranhão’s literature and popular culture

Abstract

This article proposes a reflection about the work of construction of “pantheons” and the practices of eternalization of “figures” through the examination of two publications that are configured in “notable galleries”. We analyzed Academic Profiles and Popular Culture Profiles taking into consideration: (i) the social and political position of the agents (biographers and biographiers), defined by the resources on which their “reputation” and their inscriptions are based on cultural and political struggles; (ii) the structuring strategies of the works, observing the selection and hierarchization of the cases, available space, assigned classifications, among others; (iii) and the contents, adjectives, definitions, finally, the representations explained in the pre-texts and laudatory texts. Thereby, the conditioning factors of affirmation, the logics of action and mechanisms of consecration mobilized by agents who constitute as authorized spokespersons are learned, as well as the multiple patterns of notabilization of “interpreters” of the culture and the regional memory in and of Maranhão.

Possui Licenciatura e Bacharelado em Ciências Sociais pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1996; 1995), mestrado e doutorado em Ciência Política pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1999; 2003), com estada de doutoramento junto à École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris/2002). Bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq, atualmente é Professor Associado II na UFMA e está vinculado ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências Sociais. É editor da Revista Pós Ciências Sociais. Coordena o Laboratório de Estudos Sobre Elites Políticas e Culturais - LEEPOC.

Eliana Tavares dos Reis, Universidade Federal do Maranhão

Possui bacharelado em Ciências Sociais, é mestre e doutora em Ciência Política pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), com estágio de doutoramento junto à Université Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne). É professora e pesquisadora da Universidade Federal do Maranhão (UFMA), vinculada ao Departamento de Sociologia e Antropologia (DESOC) e ao Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências Sociais (PPGCSoc). É Bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa (FAPEMA), coordena o Laboratório de Estudos sobre Elites Políticas e Culturais (LEEPOC) e compõe o Comitê Editorial da Revista Pós Ciências Sociais.
