Abstract

This research debates the insertion and mobility of black people in upper positions in the business world through the self-perception of these individuals about their own careers and the inconveniences found in this process. Merit is one of the main variables that guide the prospect of ascension in the new capitalist culture. Thus, changes in the production system and their interference in relations, together with historical perspectives on race relations, from the past to the present, provide the basis for the analysis of the empirical material collected by this research. This investigation points out that the discourse of the new capitalism that absorbs individuals plays a central role in maintaining social and economic inequalities.
