This paper analyzes the ways in which workers subjectively understand and judge their working conditions in the light of their work and life plans. It uses an eminently qualitative approach, based on in-depth interviews with state employees in all working conditions. The main questions asked are, “What are the implications of the employee’ work and life plans on the way they understand and judge their labour conditions?” And, “How do the precarious working conditions impact their plans?”
Key words: plan, meanings of work, public employee, precarious employment.
