Abstract

This paper intends to contribute to the production of connections between the diffuse field of sociology of culture and cultural studies and the more specific -but no less diffusetopic of biopolitics. Specifically it asks whether it is possible to elucidate aline of inquiry about the notion of biopolitics that may have interesting effects on certain aspects of the present debate in cultural studies. For that purpose, it discusses the interest in biopolitics, and then analyzes this concept and its connections with the concepts of population and life. On that basis, it proposes a redefinition of the concept of public and a new way of problematizing this concept that is central in cultural studies.

Key words: biopolitics, population, publics, control, Cultural Studies.
