Abstract

This review of the book “The Philadelphia Negro: a social study” highlights the work as a pioneering social research conducted by W.E.B Du Bois, focused on the condition of African Americans in the city of Philadelphia. Through a meticulous analysis, Du Bois examines whether there was a “black problem” or if the challenges faced by the Black individuals were the result of broader social issues influenced by racial prejudice.

Doutor em Ciência Política pela Universidade de São Paulo (2023), com graduação em Relações Internacionais pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (2014) e mestrado em Relações Internacionais pelo Programa de Pós-graduação San Tiago Dantas - Unesp/Unicamp/Puc-Sp (2017). Atualmente, pesquisador de pós-doutorado do Centro Brasileiro de Analise e Planejamento (CEBRAP).
