From negotiations with facções to the affirmation of the monopoly on State violence in prisions: prices to be paid

The article discusses the prison management focuses on the relation between the State and society. These relationships are approached from a historical-cultural, sociological, and political perspective. It discusses two types of prison management that take place over time: the negotiation of State monopoly of violence with gangs, and the affirmation of this monopoly by confronting these groups. The practices in the management types derive from the habitus of the relationship between State and society in the context of historical citizenship deficit. The article is based on qualitative data analysis from interviews and participant observation, bibliographic analysis, videos, journalistic material, documents.
