Abstract

The article aims to understand the teaching practices and challenges in Sociology, based on an online questionnaire answered by 27 Sociology teachers of Basic Education in the Federal District of Brazil. The theoretical framework uses Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of habitus to question whether there would be a set of practices and representations incorporated through the degree courses in Social Sciences, visible from the pedagogical practice after entering the labor market. Based on the analysis of four elements: a) socio-professional characteristics; b) perception of training; c) pedagogical practices and; d) teaching challenges; it was possible to highlight characteristics that show a teaching habitus in sociology connected to a bachelor’s degree structure in the area. We hypothesize that undergraduate courses are still not very autonomous, which makes it difficult to create symbolic rules for legitimizing a sociology teaching habitus built from their structures.
