The houses of the Brazil in Europe

Abstract

The name Casa do Brasil refers to the student residences built in the decade of 1950-60 with the purpose of fomenting the international educational formation of the Brazilian researchers. These houses constitute monuments responsible for the dissemination of a modernist image of Brazil in Europe. Its main exponents are the Maison du Brésil in Paris and the Casa do Brasil in Madrid. For its part, the name “Casa do Brasil”, since the 1990s, has been used to name associations that support Brazilian immigrants in Europe, as demonstrated by Casas do Brasil in London, Lisbon and Munich. This work wishes to reflect on these houses as “Brazilian educational territories” in Europe from research course that articulates the challenges of the accomplishment of a work of historical and ethnographic research that crosses the relations between anthropology, ethnography and education.

Ceres Karam Brum, UFSM

Possui graduação em Ciências Jurídicas e Sociais pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (1991), graduação em História pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (1996), mestrado em Educação pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (1998), mestrado em Integração Latino – Americana pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (1999) e doutorado em Antropologia Social pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (2005), com estágio acadêmico na École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (2003-2004) e pós-douorado júnior em História Ibero-Americana pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (2005). Em 2010 desenvolveu a pesquisa de pós-doutorado Maison du Brésil: um território Brasileiro em Paris na École Normale Superieur de Paris É professor adjunto da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, no Departamento de Ciências Sociais e no Mestrado em Ciências Sociais. Tem experiência de pesquisa na área de Antropologia e História, com ênfase em Antropologia da Educação e Antropologia Urbana. Atua principalmente nos seguintes temas: nação e região, mito, imaginário, representações, memória, educação, Missões Jesuítico-Guaranis e tradicionalismo gaúcho. É autora do livro Esta terra tem dono: representações do passado missioneiro no Rio Grande do Sul. Santa Maria: Editora da UFSM, 2006
